Senior Services of Island County is the largest non profit agency serving seniors in the county. We are committed to promoting the personal independence and participation in the life and affairs of the community for seniors and people with disabilities throughout Whidbey and Camano Islands. Established in 1972, the organization is governed by a board of directors and supported by a wide variety of services including federal and state grants through Northwest Regional Council, Island County Government, the City of Oak Harbor, United Way, Camano Island Senior Services Association, Foundation Grants, membership dues, private donations and individual bequests. SSIC is grateful to the many individuals, corporations, foundations and agencies in our community who so generously donate their time and money in support of the safety net of services provided throughout Island County. SSIC depends greatly on volunteer assistance to carry out its mission; a total of 37,891 hours of volunteer assistance was recorded in 2005. The volunteers are assisted by approximately 50 full and part time employees. MissionOn behalf of Senior and disabled citizens residing in Island County we provide services and resources which improve their well-being, promote personal independence and facilitate their participation in the life and affairs of the community. VisionSenior Services of Island County envisions its community as one in which all residents, especially seniors and people with disabilities, are adequately housed and fed, clothed and capable of independent living as long as possible. Provided with these basics, residents are able to lead lives that are purposeful, healthy, active, content and socially integrated into the life of the community. |
