We provide tasty and nutritious meals for people over 60 years old and to some eligible younger people who are disabled. The Nutrition Program serves hot meals at meal sites on Whidbey Island and Camano Islands, delivers hot and frozen meals to home-bound seniors, and offers nutritional counseling / assistance when needed. BenefitsCongregate meals - where people come to a central location and are served about noon. There are eight places in Island County where meals are provided. Meals on Wheels - Meals are delivered to seniors who cannot leave their homes without assistance and are unable to prepare balanced meals for themselves. Meals are delivered between 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Menus - The meals served are selected to appeal to seniors and contain at least one-third of the Recommended Daily Allowance of nutrients for people sixty or older. Support & FundingMeal Cost - This program is funded largely by participant donations and community resources. Your donation is needed and appreciated. Participants are asked to donate what they feel they can afford. Food stamps are welcome. All donations are strictly confidential. The Senior Nutrition Program in Island County is funded by donations from participants and by grants from Northwest Regional Council. Additional funding is provided by Island County, the City of Oak Harbor, United Way, Camano Senior Services Foundation, and donations from many individuals and organizations. |
