Senior Services of Island County Annual MeetingTuesday, March 11, 1 p.m. This is your chance to find out what we’ve accomplished this past year and help make plans for the future. All are invited. Financial Workshops for SeniorsMondays, March 3, 10 and 17, 12:45-2:15 p.m. A series of three workshops with Neal Brody, MBA, a financial planner and president of Senior Financial Services who has offered workshops at the Senior Center in the past. Call the Senior Center to sign up. • March 3: Seniors and the IRS…2008 edition. There are two sets of tax rules, one for the informed, and one for the uninformed. This workshop will discuss tax saving strategies on your current income and investments. • March 10: Legal strategies for long-term care. Most senior adults are not prepared for the most significant threat to their financial security in the past century. What steps can you take today to best prepare you for this potentially devastating event? • March 17: Conservative investing. Can you safely invest in a market environment that is bouncing around like a ping-pong ball in a windstorm? This workshop discusses techniques that go a long way towards removing the fear and guesswork out of investing. Call the Senior Center to sign up!Harbor Tower Village hosts its 3rd annual free corned beef, cabbage and potato meal…complete with the Celtic music of an awesome group called Thistle Dew. It’s a come-and-go affair, however they’re hopeful folks will “stick around” to enjoy the music and fun. And once again they are willing to send a van for us about 10:30 a.m. if the group interested swells to 9 or 10. This deceptively simple game of logic is being played all over the world…in private living rooms and on cruise ships! It’s easy to learn, yet hard to master. If you are interested in doing this very individual “sport” in a loose social setting –– perhaps with the opportunity to cross-share a strategy or two – or try your hand at a first puzzle, consider participating in this 45-minute activity, and stay for lunch if you like! No lines to memorize. Remain seated if you want. Bring your enthusiasm and come explore the world of drama with Patsy Brereton. You will learn how to use your voice while using simple costumes and props. Expect fun and an opportunity to bring out your creativity while you prepare for a mini-performance to be shared with a supportive audience at the Senior Center. Seated/Modified Tai Chi(new) Mondays, 10-11am. Cost: $40.00/month Call the Senior Center to sign up. Payment before first class. Suited particularly for those with challenges such as joint problems, high blood pressure, diminished balance, weight, and/or difficulty with movements, these movements assist in keeping the brain and nervous system alive and functioning. The slow and gentle movements of Tai Chi and Qigong have and long and proven history of being a valuable tool to create noticeable positive changes in body, mind and spirit.
